The Golf Association of Ontario mourns the loss of Rick Sovereign

St Catharines, ON: The Ontario golf community is deeply saddened by the passing of Teaching Professional Rick Sovereign. After a long spirited battle against cancer Rick passed away at the age of 52 on Friday, January 3rd, 2014.

A great competitive player Sovereign was a finalist in the Ontario Match Play in 1988 and finished fourth at the Ontario Amateur that same year. He also represented Ontario on the 1988 Willingdon Cup team before turning pro in 1991.

Loving husband of his best friend Barb. Proud father of Kristen and Kelly. Son of the late Len and Joan Sovereign. Fondly loved by his brother Mike (Lori) and sister Julie (Ian). He will be greatly missed by his many family and friends whom he has inspired. Rick lived a full life pursuing a dream with an unbreakable spirit. The family thanks everyone who provided him strength and comfort during his journey.

Friends and relatives will be received at Glen Oaks Reception Centre 3164 Ninth Line (403/Dundas), Oakville 905-257-8822 on Tuesday, January 7th from 5:00 pm- 9:00 pm. Memorial service will be held at Glen Oaks on Wednesday, January 8th at 1:00 pm.
