WINDSOR — The Golf Association of Ontario (GAO) was saddened to learn of the passing of long-time volunteer Derek White, on June 5 in Windsor.
White, 81, had been a volunteer with the GAO from 1990 to 2012. He specialized in course rating and was the team leader for the Essex-Kent District.
“He is one of few that achieved the Master Course Rater level. He was a mentor for everyone he worked within the Essex area,” said Marcus Strom, GAO Manager, Handicapping and Course Rating.
White also helped to bring slope ratings to courses in Ontario.
White was a golf enthusiast who loved his winters in Myrtle Beach and was a long-term member and past President of the Kingsville Golf Club.
