On January 5th, 2011 Nancy Reid of Unionville passed away and the game of golf lost a passionate individual who has made significant contributions to golf in Ontario. A volunteer with the OLGA (Ontario Ladies’ Golf Association) and the GAO for more than 20 years, Nancy served as District Coordinator for the Scarboro District for over a decade. As a Level 4 certified Rules Official, Nancy was a familiar face at golf events across the province and was known for her fair and friendly approach. She was the “go-to” rules person at her home club, Sleepy Hollow. Nancy also dedicated her time to the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame committee and was a member of the GAO Board of Directors for four years. Nancy’s dedication and love for the game of golf was demonstrated by the countless hours she spent on the golf course. Her keen eye for detail coupled with her calm demeanour made her a fantastic asset to GAO championships. She will be fondly remembered by many friends, volunteers, GAO staff and players and we are honoured to recognize Nancy with a Distinguished Service Award for her outstanding commitment to the game.

On April 14th, 2011, Nancy Reid was posthumously awarded the Syl Apps Special Achievment Award at the Ontario Sport Awards. The Ontario Sport Awards recognize the outstanding accomplishments and contributions of our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and the corporate community. The Province of Ontario presents the Syl Apps Special Achievement Award annually to Ontario volunteers who have contributed to the development of sport throughout the province.
