Huntsville, ON – Two former champions have reclaimed the trophy at the Ontario Women’s Four-Ball Championship. Susan Wickware and Judith Kyrinis, both of Thornhill, captured the 2009 title Wednesday at Deerhurst Highlands in Huntsville.
Wickware is a three-time champion of the event (1993, 1994, and 1998) while Kyrinis won in 1996. The duo paired up together for the first time in 2009, and their two under par 70 topped the field of 32 teams by two strokes. Wickware, the former Ontario Women’s Amateur champion and Ontario Senior Women’s Amateur champion, represents the Ladies Golf Club of Toronto and Kyrinis plays out of Thornhill Golf and Country Club.
Jennifer Lochhead of Ancaster teamed up with defending Ontario Women’s Senior champion and two-time Four Ball champion Ivy Steinberg of Cedar Valley to finish with an even-par 72 and a pair of silver medals. Barrie’s Judy Stewart and Katie McIntyre shared third place with Burlington’s Jackie Rosart and 2003 champion Carolyn Smith, finishing three back at 73. In the Low Net Division, twin sisters Deena and Donna Hugh-Yeun of Markham delivered a nine under par 63 to top the leaderboard.
The Golf Association of Ontario’s Women’s Four-Ball Championship is contested annually and is open to golfers with a handicap index of 25.4 and under. 2009 marks the 18th playing of the event, and the first time that Deerhurst Highlands has played host.
