ONTARIO JUNIOR TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS

Uxbridge, Ontario: Richcard Scott of Kingsville and Katie Williams captured the Junior Boys and Girls Divisions of the Ontario Junior Tournament of Champions respectively. Scott finished the 54-hole event at 1-under par while Williams won her second straight title by a convincing margin of five strokes. The championship was contested over the demanding Wooden Sticks Golf Club in Uxbridge.

While Scott was busying claiming the overall Junior Boys title, 16 year-old Matthew Tindale of Peterborough captured the Juvenile Boys Division (16 & Under). "This is such a good feeling, I worked hard all winter with Mark Evershed (Head Professional at Peterborough G&CC) and today it paid off," remarked an overjoyed Tindale.

18 year-old Williams didn't let an opening round 81 dampen her spirits or prospects of repeating. Instead, the Kent State bound golfer played sound, fundamental golf the rest of the way. "Putting was definitely the difference," said Williams. "My game also got better as time went on." She opened with an 81 and followed up with 76 in round two and 73 in today's final round.

Scott, who is headed to the University of Georgia this fall proved just why the NCAA golf powerhouse required his services for the next four years. "I played pretty solid all weekend, not too spectacular," exclaimed Scott. "This golf course (Wooden Sticks) places a premium on finding the fairways or keeping it in play, and I did that. I love this track, the 'replica' holes are good, but the rest of the holes make this design."

Kevin Dore of Dundas finished two shots back of Scott to claim second place. The defending Juvenile Champion of Ontario led after the opening round.

Holly Goncalves of London entered the final round in a share of the lead with Williams and eventually finished five shots off the pace.

The Golf Association of Ontario, the governing body of amateur golf in Ontario, determines provincial policies and standards relating to the game on behalf of its more than 100,000 individual members and more than 500 member clubs. The GAO conducts provincial amateur golf tournaments, camps, clinics, and seminars.
