Gail Pimm of Stouffville Wins Inaugural Ladies' Public Player Championship

Gail Pimm of Stouffville carded a 3-over par, 75 to capture the inaugural Ontario Ladies' Public Player Championship at the Mill Run Golf & Country Club in Uxbridge, Ontario.

Pimm posted three birdies in the 18-hole championship to fend off twelve other golfers for the title. "We're pleased with how the event unfolded," said Sean Threlfall, the Golf Association of Ontario's Tournament Director. "We obviously anticipated more women to take part, but many of our female public course players are either back in school or have recently completed a grueling summer schedule; we may consider a date change but for now we'd like to focus on increasing the number of women in the GAO's public player program."

The GAO, and prior to amalgamation, the Ontario Ladies' Golf Association used to conduct a Public Player Championship for ladies that was competed for by teams of two golfers. The co-defending champion in the old format of the Ladies' Public Player Championship - Jennifer Kuntz of Toronto finished in a tie for 2nd placed this year.

Joining Kuntz in second place is 13-year-old phenom - Stephanie Simich of Mississauga. Simich, who turns 14 next week, captured the inaugural Ontario Bantam Girls Championship earlier this summer.
