Humphrey Yeung Wins Ontario Bantam Boys Championship
Humphrey Yeung of Markham carded a final round, 72 and hung on to win the 2003 Ontario Bantam Boys Golf Championship at the Puslinch Lake Golf Club in Camrbidge, Ontario.
Yeung and Jeffrey McClure of Orangeville shared the first round lead, but the champion managed to avoid difficulty until a double bogey on the 36th and final hole of the tournament made for an interesting finish. Yeung, who plays out of the Whitevale Golf Club, finished the tourney at 1-under par (67-72--139).
First round co-leader - Jeffrey McClure of Orangeville posted a score 15 shots higher than his opening round 67. The 13-year-old, Shelburne Golf Club member made four double-bogeys and four bogeys and dropped to a tie for 19th.
Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas and Michael Oudyk of Oshawa finished the championship at 1-over in a tie for second place. Hughes, 12, posted an even par round of 70 that included a birdie on the second hole and bogey on the par 5, 18th hole. Oudyk, 13, made three bogeys and two birdies on the front nine and settled for a 1-over par round of 71 for the day.
This is the fifth year in a row that the 4,908 yard, par 70, Puslinch Lake Golf Club has played host to Ontario's top bantam aged golfers (13 and under).
Andrew Milligan of King City and Eric Hunter of Mount Forest matched the low round for the tournament, equalling Yeung's and McClure's opening round 67's. Milligan, 12 finished tied for 11th and 13-year-old Hunter finished five-shots in arrears of Yeung in a tie for 6th.
12-year-old Daley Byles of Barrie made the shot of the day, aceing the par 3, 150 yard, 8th hole with a 5-iron. More...
The youngest player in the field to compete over 36 holes was 10-year-old Jordan Oudyk of Oshawa. The younger brother to Michael posted rounds of 73 and 77 and wound up tied for 22nd.
