Stephanie Simich Wins Inaugural Ontario Bantam Girls Championship
Stephanie Simich of Mississauga easily captured the inaugural Ontario Bantam Girls Championship at the Ainsdale Golf Club in Kincardine.
Simich posted scores of 76 and 79 in the 36-hole championship at the 5,885 yard, par 72 course located near the shores of Lake Huron.
The 13-year-old was presented with the Cathy Sherk Trophy, named after the Niagara Falls native who has been instrumental in the development of countless junior golfers in the Niagara Peninsula. Sherk is a member of both the Ontario and Canadian Golf Halls of Fame.
Laura Hildebrandt of Ancaster made her away around the Ainsdale course at +15 (79-80--159). The 12-year-old Brantford Golf & Country Club member finished alone in 2nd place.
The Ontario Girls Bantam Championship was run concurrently with the Ontario Junior & Juvenile Girls Championship. Bantams, aged 13 and under competed over 36 holes while Juveniles (14-16) and Juniors (17-18) will compete over 54 holes.
Jennifer Kirby of Paris and a clubmate of Hildebrandt's rounds out the top three with a 20-over par performance for two rounds.
