Investors Group Ladies' Mid-Amateur Championship

Lapointe Wins the Ontario Ladies' Mid-Amateur

London, ON:  Mary Ann Lapointe of Georgetown captured her 11th Investors Group Ontario Ladies Mid-Amateur Championship at the Greenhills Golf Club in London, Ontario, but not without a battle.

Heading into the final round with a commanding five shot lead, Lapointe had to make a sand save on the final hole of the 54-hole event to win by a single shot over Terrill Samuel of Etobicoke.  Lapointe finished the championship at five-over par 221.

Lapointe was in control until the 13th hole when she made back-to-back sixes.  She then bogied the final three holes to let Samuel back into the battle.  Lapointe had to blast out of the sand (to within 18 inches) from in front of the 18th green to save the victory.

Samuel matched par of 72 to end up a single shot back at 222.  Cheryl Mitchell of Pontiac, Michigan fired a two-under par 70, the low round of the tournament, to move into third place at 224.
