Yoon Wins Investors Group Ontario Junior Girls'Championship in Playoff

Christina Yoon, 15, of Etobicoke, Ontario edged fellow competitor Stephanie Sherlock, 17, of Barrie, Ontario, in a three-hole playoff to win the Investors Group Ontario Junior Girls’ Championship at Goderich Sunset Golf Club in Goderich, Ontario. Yoon and Sherlock were tied at a three-day total of 222 following final-round play. With the win, Yoon marks her second GAO victory of the season, after winning the Investors Group Junior Girls' Tournament of Champions earlier in the season.
Finishing in third place, one stroke behind the lead was Christine Ryckman, 18, of Unionville, Ontario with a total score of 223 for the tournament.

In the Juvenile Girls’ division, Anita Gahir, 16, of Thornhill, Ontario emerged the victor after firing a one-over par 71 on the final day of play to win the Ontario Juvenile Girls’ Championship with a three-day total of 224. Following six-strokes behind Gahir to place second was Bev Peel, 16, of Schomberg, Ontario. Finishing third was 15-year old Stephanie Simich of Mississauga, Ontario with an overall total of 232.

The top four Junior Girls’ will represent Team Ontario at the 2004 CLGA 50th National Junior Girls’ Championship being held in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan at the Hillcrest Sports Centre, August 9th to 12th. Representing the Junior side is Christina Yoon, Stephanie Sherlock, Christine Ryckman, and Karly Pinder.  

In addition to the Junior Team who will represent Ontario, a Juvenile team consisting of the top four finishers will travel together to the National event. Travelling to Moose Jaw is Anita Gahir, Bev Peel, Stephanie Simich and Kelly Paton.

The GAO is the governing body of amateur golf in Ontario and mandates policies on behalf of over 400 member clubs and over 100,000 individual members. In addition to providing core services such as the Rules of Golf, Handicapping and Course Rating, Player Development, the GAO also conducts provincial championships, camps, clinics and seminars.
